MESSAGEBOARD UPDATE

The ValiantFans.com Messageboard is back online at ValiantFans.com.

The ValiantFans.com Messageboard online at ValiantFans.com
relies on a PHPBB software package that is widely used online.

The version of the PHPBB messageboard software that was running
was vulnerable to hacking, and was hacked by some unknown person.
It was most likely someone who had never been to the site or even heard of
ValiantFans.com, Valiant comics, or this site, who unleashed the virus
on anyone and everyone they could hit online.

Many messageboards around the world were "taken down" yesterday by
a "WebWorm" that exploited the vulnerability in the system.

My webhosting company is attempting to restore the board software
to a backed-up version of the pages, and I have a backup copy
of the database, if all else fails.

I now have to wait for them to complete their backup attempt before
I can upgrade the messageboard software to the latest (more secure) version.
At this point, I don't know how long it might take them because
there are probably dozens of other customers experiencing the
same problem.
