NOTE: CGC grading fees for Modern age comic books are about $14-$16 per book
(often the submitter takes advantage of the 10% discount offered by retailers).
Shipping to and from CGC is an additional cost as well, perhaps $4-$6 total.
More shipping from the book seller to the new buyer is an additional cost.
As a result, approximately $25 of the sale price for any CGC graded book
is the cost of shipping to CGC, grading, return shipping, and shipping
to the new buyer of the book.
There is little advantage for CGC grading on most modern comic books.
Money is "lost" utilizing CGC when the sale price is less than $25 plus
the "ungraded" value of the book. In fact, as seen above, some CGC graded books
sell for even less than the $25 costs of grading and multiple shipping.
The sale prices above INCLUDE the shipping costs as part of the sale total.
* The "Buy It Now" option was used on auctions with an asterisk (*),
prohibiting any further auction bids.
** The "CGC Net Difference" for a $5 book that sells for $43 after CGC grading is $13.00 profit.
$43 minus $25 in CGC costs and shipping, minus $5 that could have been received for the book
without CGC grading = $13.00 net gain by using CGC and then selling the book.
If the same CGC graded $5 comic sold for $28.00, the CGC Net Difference would be ($2.00) loss.
$28.00 minus $25 in CGC costs, minus $5 that could have been received for the book
without CGC grading = $2.00 net loss by using CGC and then selling the book.
(The graded book did not cover the cost of the grading fees when it was resold.)
CGC Net Differences which are positive are noted in GREEN, negatives are noted in (RED).
All CGC grades are Universal except for VVSS books which are always Qualified.
