What About My Old Collection?

This page is specifically for comic book collectors who already have
a few Valiant comic books in their collection...
and they're wondering if they've got anything valuable.

You can look up the values of Valiant comics from your collection

Or jump right to the most valuable books by looking at the
VALIANT Revisited price guide sorted by highest values first.

You can check to see if you have any of the Most Wanted regular issues
or any of the Variant or Premium versions of the comics.

COMMON BOOKS
Most Valiant collections are made up of the most common issues
of Valiant comic books...that's why they're called the most common issues.

Generally, any Valiant comic book with a cover date from
October 1992 until December 1994 is one the easiest books to find.
Often there were 100,000 copies, if not 500,000+ copies printed.
The month is usually printed near the cover price,
and the month and year can almost always be located
in the indicia, printed on the bottom of one of the first
pages in the comic book.

COVER PRICE
Without opening the comic, a general idea for the date
can be determined simply by looking at the cover price.

Here are the approximate dates for Valiant comics by cover price:
$1.75 - 1991 (first year - less common issues)
$1.95 - early 1992 (less common and low print runs)
$2.25 - mid-1992 to mid-1995 (very common to less common issues)
$2.50 - late-1992 to 1996 (common for 1992-94, low print for 1995-96)
$2.95 - 1995 (one-shot books, outside the regular schedule)
$3.00 to $7.00 - 1992 to 1996 (double issues or enhanced covers)
$7.95 or more - 1994 to 1995 (trade paperbacks, reprinting earlier comics)
less than $1.75 - 1992 to 1995 (one-shot books, promotional with fewer pages)
No cover price - 1992 to 1995 (give-away books, usually dealer incentives)

Although sometimes confusing, the above list clearly shows that the
earliest, harder-to-find Valiant comics have cover prices of $1.75 or $1.95.
Also look for books without a cover price, generally these are rarer dealer incentives.
If your collection contains none of these, you can be fairly certain that
your collection mainly consists of the later, more common Valiant books.

VALIANT LOGO
Also, the VALIANT Logo on the front cover can be used
(in combination with the cover price) to determine the age of the issue.

AVAILABILITY
Most dealers around the country are still "overstocked" on Valiant books from
late-1992 to 1994. These books are often selling for 10cents or 25cents each.
For this reason, many dealers, collectors, and price guides like to label
Valiant comic books as worthless, "bargain-bin books".
This may be true, but only for books from late-1992 to 1994.

However, there are very few dealers who can provide a wide selection of 1991 or
early-1992 Valiant comics. These are the books that were once highly sought-after
and are still hard to find today.
These books from 1991 to early-1992 are referred to as "Pre-Unity" Valiant books.
Also hard to find are Valiant comics from late-1995 or 1996.
Few copies were printed due to low demand, so few were ever available.
